3 Most Serene Golf Courses in Pattaya
Siam Country Club is known to golfers all over the world as a place of championship calibre golf courses, set among beautiful, tropical greenery and first-class facilities that make a round of golf outing of pleasure near the seaside city of Pattaya.
Thailand’s first privately owned golf club, Siam Country Club is just as well known for the skill and care they put into the design and upkeep of their courses and the luxury of their facilities. Asia Golf Week Magazine referred to Siam Country Club as “the best-maintained golf course in Asia-Pacific”.
Their facilities are exceptional. All three of the courses feature spacious, elegantly designed restaurants with the warm and friendly service that Thailand is famous for. The newly designed Plantation course also hosts a fully-equipped pro shop, and there is a helipad as well for golfers who want to fly in from the nearby airports in Bangkok and Rayong.
A day spent at Siam Country Club is a day spent on a beautiful and challenging course in tropical sunshine and cool breezes blowing in off the Gulf of Thailand. It’s retiring at the end of your round to savour the fine dining and full bar available at the three restaurants as you gaze out over the golf courses and toast to another day of golfing in paradise.
Old Course
Siam Country Club’s original course, the Old Course, was originally by Japanese architect Ichisuke Izumi and opened in 1970. The course, including the facilities, has recently been completely refurbished under the design and guidance of Mr Lee Schmidt of Schmidt-Curley Design Inc.
The course is a favourite of the LPGA. This year, Amy Yang recorded her third Honda LPGA Thailand title on the Old Course, finishing with a total score of 22-under 266. The Thailand leg of the Honda-sponsored LPGA tournament has been contested on the Old Course continuously since 2010, and no one seems to know how to play the course quite as well as Amy Yang.
The Honda LPGA Thailand is the only flagship tournament and the only LPGA tournament in Thailand. Siam Country Club and the LPGA aim to take women’s golf to the next level by continuing the tradition of staging the Honda LPGA Thailand leg at the Old Course at Siam Country Club.
In 2008, the Old Course was honoured when it was selected as the 73rd best golf course in the world by the USA’s Golf Digest Magazine.
The course’s driving range offers two levels of grassed tees and the Old Course also features a putting green and practice chipping range.
Plantation Course
The Plantation Course was opened in 2008 and hosted the Honda- LPGA tournament in 2009 and the Singha-Thailand Open in 2015. This course is a favourite of golf aficionados around the world for its panoramic views, elevated greens, and shaved fringes. It also features undulating fairways and Asia’s first and only triple green.
The mountain terrain that serves to differentiate this course from any other course in Thailand also provides a panoramic view of Pattaya and the Gulf of Thailand. The refreshing breezes that blow in off the gulf, provide relief for golfers as they negotiate the beautiful mountains, creeks, fairways, bunkers, and greens.
An architectural “birds-wing” style clubhouse looks down on the course from the top of a hill and provides an excellent view of nearly all areas of the course. From the front balcony of the clubhouse, it provides an unobstructed view of all the action on the unique triple green. The clubhouse also has a spacious restaurant that is perfect for hosting events and parties.
It has been voted the best-maintained golf course in the Asia-Pacific region, and in 2015 it was named best golf course in 206 countries by Golf Digest. The 27-hole course is par 108. The Siam Country Club pro shop is located along Plantation Course. It also features a driving range and chipping and putting greens.
Waterside Course
The Waterside Course was opened in 2014 and consists of an 18-hole par 72 course. It also features a rarity in the golf world, a 618-yard, par 5, hole #18 to offer a further challenge to golfers
The course is designed around a picturesque lake and numerous ponds and creeks in play make the course a bucolic course to play and a bit of a challenge as well. It features elevated tee boxes that allow you to view the green before you tee off, which helps those unfamiliar with the course.
The par-5, 18th hole is the hole the course is famous for. This 600-yard hole offers daring golfers the option of trying to hit the fairway across a dogleg left over a water hazard. This would enable them to reach the green in two strokes.
The final hole is played around the lake feature of the course and the green is just across the cart path from the modern, majestic clubhouse that looks out over the lake and provides a commanding, elevated view of the 18th green.
The course includes a 20-bay driving range, a putting green and putting course as well. It is well-equipped to offer decades of pleasurable and challenging golf experience to golfers the world over.
