The pantheon of top-quality golf courses near Bangkok is about to get a little bit more exciting with the imminent opening of the Siam Country Club Pattaya Rolling Hills. Set to open its doors in January 2020, this will be the fourth course to join the illustrious Siam Country Club family.
The newest 18-hole course is located on 660 rai (260 acres) within the existing Siam Country Club grounds. This illustrious and award-winning club has been developed on and off over the past few decades, starting with the first golf course back in 1971.
Rolling Hill’s outstanding layout and stunning natural beauty are sure to appeal to golfers far and wide. Located east of the nation’s capital city, approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes south of Suvarnabhumi International Airport, the course will be easily reached by both Bangkok and Pattaya visitors and long-term residents.
As with all Siam Country Club courses, the layout of Rolling Hills is pure, with no buildings offering embellishment. Distinct from the strict natural style of design that is in vogue nowadays, the course is a hybrid of traditional and natural elements, under the auspices of ‘traditional natural design’.
Surrounded by greenery and mountains on all sides, along with a refreshing cool breeze, Rolling Hills offers golfers a serene and challenging golfing environment. Bird enthusiastic will be enthralled by the number of exotic species who call the course home. They make good use of the course’s abundant plant life: the first six holes are resplendent with various species of pine trees; the next six holes are decorated with colorful flowers; and the final six showcase tropical plants.
The course has been designed by world-famous company Schmidt-Curley to feature memorable holes via centerline hazards offering stunning visuals and many strategic lines of attack. Excitement is further created via vast expanses of lakes, casuarina trees, botanical gardens, marshlands, waste bunkers, and lotus pools.
From the tee-off to the last hole, featuring a crescendo of challenging holes that climb to the highest point and back down to the clubhouse, Rolling Hills won’t disappoint. The whole course affords both the beginner and advanced golfer a challenging and enjoyable game in a truly fantastic setting.
The course’s 18 holes occupy an area of 7,267 yards and feature 72 pars. The traditional design accentuates the lush environment and makes the most of up and down hills, with great emphasis on open vistas of the surrounding mountains.
Many existing and impressive holes of all are 15, 16, 17, and 18. Hole No.18 is a masterpiece, wrapping around the lake with unique contour levels. No.15 is a par 5, uphill, double zig-zag fairway with a 19-foot high ‘Wall of death’ bunker guarding it. Any golfer worth his salt will want to come and try this stimulating course!
Facilities on Par
For Thai and international golfers wanting to perfect their drives, puts, and swings in natural surroundings, Rolling Hills is a must-visit destination.
Once complete, the Siam Country Club complex will be the largest in Thailand, featuring four courses with a combined 81 holes. For over 40 years, the club has been the mainstay of the Thai golfing scene. It’s three existing courses – Old Course, Plantation, and Waterside – routinely host several top regional golfing events, such as the Thailand Open and Asian Golf Circuits. Not to mention that for ten consecutive years it has been the venue of the Honda LPGA championship.
To support the opening of Rolling Hills and a projected increase in visitor numbers, the club plans to develop a luxurious new golf lodge and the five-star hotel beside the Old Course, offering visiting golfers even more incentive to visit the club.
